'150 free cataract surgeries conducted successfully at Thoubal District Hospital'

THOUBAL, Jan 16: In a remarkable achievement, 150 free cataract surgeries have been conducted successfully by the Eye Department, Thoubal District Hospital from November 2022 till date enabling clear vision to individuals who have cataracts.
The free surgeries were conducted by the Thoubal District Hospital under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment.
Marking the successful conduct of 150th free cataract surgery, a simple function was held at the Thoubal District Hospital conference hall today where simple gifts were presented to 10 individuals who have undergone cataract surgeries by Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Ahanthem Subhash  who is also the Chairman of the District Health Society, Thoubal.
Speaking at the occasion, the Thoubal DC expressed joy that the Thoubal District Hospital has developed significantly over the past two years.
The DC informed that a total of 1,15,987 patients were treated in the Outpatient Department of the hospital in the year 2023 with a considerable increase of 47562 patients as compared to the year 2022.
He maintained that the hospital has been able to conduct the free cataract surgeries successfully mainly due to the donation of major equipment by the MSCB and HDFC Bank in Thoubal district.
Today's programme was also attended by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Thoubal Dr Y Nokul, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr W Ruhinikumar and Ophthalmologist, Dr O Birbala.
