Workshop cum production on 'Tribal and Manipuri Dance' concludes

IMPHAL, Jan 14 : The month-long worksop cum production on "Tribal and Manipuri Dance" organised by Lianda Folk and Classical Academy, Nagamapal Soram Leirak concluded today at Manipuri Jagoi Marup, Lamboi Khongnangkhong Veterinary Leirak.
The valedictory function was attended by G Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director, Department of Art & Culture; Budha Chingtham, Member, Board of Governors, EZCC Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, Government of India; and Soibam Phulindro, retired teacher, Kendriya Vidyalaya Lamphelpat as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Lianda Folk and Classical Academy president Aribam Rasheshori said that the month-long workshop cum production was conducted under Chief Minister-gi Artistesing-gi Tengbang (CMAT) scheme of the Department of Art & Culture, Government of Manipur.
She continued that the workshop was organised with the aim to divert the minds of children from the prevailing situation of Manipur and teach them folk dances of the State.
"More than 100 from conflict-affected areas of the State participated in the workshop and 85 students gave their performance on the final day", she added.
G Dharmadas Sharma called for collective effort to promote & preserve the traditional performing arts of Manipur.
During the event, Lianda Folk and Classical Academy felicitated Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Guru N Jadumani and Guru N Tiken.
Participants of the workshop cum production performed 'Maibi Laiching Jagoi', 'Thougal Jagoi', 'Chali Paring', 'Mao Jagoi' and 'Kabui Jagoi'.
