National Youth Day celebrated

TBL/SPI/UKL, Jan 12: National Youth Day was celebrated widely in the State today commemorating the 161st birth anniversary of visionary leader Swami Vivekananda, who pioneered the importance of youths in nation building.

National Youth Day was celebrated at Thoubal College Multipurpose hall today jointly organised by the college and ABVP Thoubal Unit.
In line with the celebration, a discussion programme was held on the topic, 'Self Reliant Bharat and the Role of Youth'.
Manipur University Registrar, Professor W Chandbabu, SP Thoubal Rakesh Balwal, Thoubal College Principal Professor M Bina Devi, ABVP Thoubal Unit secretary Tina Devi and ABVP Manipur treasurer Deepak Ningombam graced the occasion as the presidium members.
The dignitaries while speaking at the occasion recalled the teachings and principles of Swami Vivekananda for empowering the youths of the Nation and underscored the need for keeping alive his ideology of 'Universal Brotherhood'.

National Service Scheme in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendras Senapati (NYKS) of Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram celebrated the day at the college.
The celebration began with a pledge taking ceremony by 2400 students of the college along with Fr Dr KO Sebastian SDB, Principal, and the teaching faculty and the staff of the  
Addressing the gathering, the Principal exhorted the youths to recognize and utilize the vast potential, talents and capabilities within them for nation building.
NSS volunteers delivered their view on the theme, “Viksit Bharat@2047” towards developing the nation and the role of youth through speech competitions.
Ukhrul
Display of cultural shows, patriotic songs and skits marked the celebration of National Youth Day at Kendriya Vidyalaya Kasomtang, Ukhrul today organised by the Vidyalaya under the sponsorship of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Ukhrul.
District Officer of NYK, Ukhrul, Worchipem AC in his keynote address, highlighted the main objectives of commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda which is to inspire the youths and to sensitize  the masses about their responsibilities and rights.
Speaking as the chief guest, Timothy Maram SDPO, Ukhrul Police underscored the need of upholding the ideals of farsighted leader Swami Vivekananda.
He also spoke about the importance of traffic management in Ukhrul town in view of the rising cases of violation of traffic rules
Urging the youths to maintain traffic discipline, the SDPO appealed to the youths to participate in the traffic awareness movement to sensitize the general populace and avert road accidents.
Later, the chief guest also flagged off the 'Road Safety campaign' of Ukhrul town.
Meanwhile, the National Youth Day was also celebrated today at Maka village ground in Kamjong district.
Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya Chihanso Shingnaisui narrated the story of Swami Vivekananda to the students and appealed to them to follow the footprint of the great leader in order to achieve the national target Viksit Bharat ( Develop India) in 2047.
Volunteers of NYK, Ukhrul Tonreipam Shatsang elaborated that the purpose of celebrating the national youth day across the districts is to nurture the potential within and unleash it for the betterment of society.
As part of the celebration, Maka village youths displayed folk dance and cultural items.
