Cops again come under attack at Moreh IEDs recovered near Moreh bypass

IMPHAL, Jan 12 : Not even a week since Director General of Assam Rifles Lieutenant General PC Nair had said that Central forces will retaliate if provoked, special commandos of Manipur police posted at Moreh Hospital have been attacked by Kuki militants yet again using sniper rifle and other sophisticated weapons today while Assam Rifles recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from near Moreh bypass yesterday.
The attack on the special commandos was carried out in the morning today by Kuki militants from Chavanphai hill range.
There is no report of any injury on the side of the security personnel.
There was an exchange of fire between the two sides for some minutes and sources said that Kuki militants were well equipped and they even used a sniper rifle in attacking the security personnel.
Security measures have been tightened at the border town following the attack, added the sources.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by IGAR (S) said that its troops recovered two IEDs from near Moreh Bypass of T Yangnom during an Area Domination Patrol (DAP) yesterday.
The recovered items include two IEDs weighing around 4.7 kg, 30 metre flexible yellow and black wire, 38 metre flexible blue and white yellow, 41 metre flexible red and white wire and another three metre of flexible green wire, as per the IGAR (S).
The seized items have been handed over to Manipur police.
Meanwhile, a team of Manipur police, CRPF and Assam Rifles recovered a huge cache of arms, explosives and ammunition during a search operation at the foothill of Heitupmakhong under Lamlai police station, today.
The recovered items include  one IED weighing about 2.7 kg, one SMC carbine along with a magazine having three live rounds, three hand grenades without detonator, one country made 9mm pistol with empty magazine and 10 live rounds of AK Rifle series.
The search operation was carried out under the command of Additional SP (Ops) Kh Herojit and overall supervision  of Imphal East SP Dr S Ibomcha.
