State Handloom Expo 2023 kicks off

IMPHAL, Sep 7 : The State Handloom Expo 2023 was inaugurated today at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi in Imphal East district.
The Expo is organised by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited (MHHDCL) under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handloom & Handicraft, Ministry of Textile, Government of India.
The inaugural function was attended by M Shanjivkumar Singh, Deputy Director (Handicraft), Development Commissioner for Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles; Priyadarshi Daripa, Deputy Director, Weavers' Service Centre Regional Office, Ministry of Textile; E Jeeten, Managing Director, MHHDCL; and Y Ashalata Devi, Project Manager (Handloom), District Handloom & Textiles Imphal East, as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, E Jeeten shared that considering the prevailing situation of Manipur, MHHDCL has made necessary arrangements to support the local weavers & artisans  and provide a platform to sell their products.
He continued that the products made by the local weavers & artisans will also be sold through Panthoibi Emporium, Paona Bazar and Panthoibi Arcade, Wangkhei.
He also informed that altogether 60 stalls including 41 handloom stalls, 12 handicraft stalls, 3 KVIB & KVIC stalls, 1 youth craft stalls, 2 food stalls and 1 promotional stall were opened at the Expo which would be held till September 20.
Priyadarshi Daripa expressed that local weavers and artisans are facing a lot of difficulties due to the ongoing conflict in the State and added that the Expo will provide an opportunity to sell their handloom & handicraft products.
