IMPHAL, Sep 29 : Condemning the brutal assault on protesting students, the National People's Party (NPP) has said that the security forces firing lethal weapons in controlling democratic protesters is an inexcusable offence.
General secretary (organisation) of NPP RK Rameshwar who contested the 2022 Assembly election on the party ticket from Patsoi AC visited the four students who are undergoing treatment at Shija Hospitals after they sustained grievous injuries in security force firing during  the protest taken out against the murder of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi, today.
Rameshwar extended cash assistance to the four students viz Loitongbam Kishan of Yairipok Angtha Mamang Leikai, Laishram Biswanath of Samurou Mayai Leikai, Sanasam Silvester of Thoubal Sabaltongba Mamang Leikai  and Mayanglangbam Johnson of Top Khongnangkhong.
Speaking to the media, the NPP leader said that he and the party condemn the excessive force employed by security forces in controlling students who were only staging protests against the murder of Hemanjit and Linthoingambi by Kuki narco-terrorists.
In the name of controlling the mob, the security personnel fired tear gas shells, mock bombs and rubber bullets against the students in uniform and inflicted grievous injuries to many of them , he said and asked if demanding the Government and the Chief Minister to deliver justice to the students murdered by Kuki terrorists is unconstitutional.
The students didn't engage in any violent activities and were in uniform and unarmed and they protested because they were emotional so what is the point of employing brute force in controlling them, he asked and added the security forces could have used minimum forces or water cannon to disperse the protesters even if some among them were aggressive.
Claiming that the security forces, however, fired pellet guns, rubber bullets, mock bombs and tear gas shells against the students, he said that the attitude of the security personnel clearly shows that the Government takes the lives of students lightly.
Those lethal weapons should be used in controlling communal riot but not against the democratic protesters, he said.
