Geneva sit-in highlights true story of Manipur

IMPHAL, Sep 28: Extending support to the COCOMI’s campaign at the United Nations, the Meitei diaspora in Europe held a sit-in demonstration at the Manifest Ground of the United Nations, adjacent to the iconic Broken Chair in Geneva, Switzerland yesterday.
COCOMI spokesman and IPSA vice-president Khuraijam Athouba, European Manipuri Association (EMA) president Sagolsem Biramani, EMA member Okram Bishwajit Singh and Yaikhomba Sagolsem were the main speakers at the sit-in demonstration.
Yaikhomba Sagolshem, a Meitei student based in London spoke on the recent circulation of disturbing images related to the tragic murder of two Meitei students Linthoingambi and Hemanjit.
After the demonstration, a seven-member delegation from the Meitei diaspora in Europe led by Khuraijam Athouba visited the United Nations campus where the 54th session of the Human Rights Council was in progress.
The delegation distributed informative pamphlets and brochures shedding light on the ongoing Manipur violence, Chin-Kuki narco-terrorism and the emerging ‘Golden Triangle’ within the campus, conveyed a press release issued by the International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA).
Khuraijam Athouba and his team have plans to submit a comprehensive factual report addressing these pressing issues to various forums and concerned rapporteurs of the United Nations in the coming days, it said.
