MOIRANG, Sep 13 : Even as the Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee (DMCC) has urged the Government to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and take up immediate action to stop armed aggression and narco-terrorism, a Sub-Inspector of Manipur police was shot dead at Chingphei bunker no 1 in Churachandpur district this afternoon under mysterious circumstances, officials said.
The policeman, identified as Onkhomang Haokip (35), s/o Jampao Haokip of Mol-cham village, Kangpokpi  was shot in the head by a sniper between 1pm and 1.30pm, they said according to PTI.  He was earlier posted at Moirang police.
It, however, is not yet known what the deceased police officer was doing at Chingphei Ching.
The police said that his last rites will be performed tomorrow at Churachandpur.
Officials added that two more persons also sustained bullet wounds in the incident, the details of which are still awaited.
Meanwhile, our Moirang correspondent said that  Kuki militants launched another gun and bomb attack at the security personnel posted on the western side of Phubala from the bunkers set up at Chingphei Ching, Haotak and Langjingmanbi Reserve Forest areas at around 12.30 am today and there was a gunfight between the two sides till around 8 am.
There was no report of any casualty on the side of security personnel.
This gunfight comes a day after three tribals were gunned down by unidentified men in Kangpokpi district on Tuesday morning.
On September 8, another three persons were killed and over 50 injured at Pallel in Tengnoupal district.
On the other hand, the Police Control Room in its daily bulletin said that one bunker was dismantled at Kangpokpi while one arm was recovered from Thoubal today.
On the other hand, claiming that the violence in Manipur was pre-planned by Kuki militants and their associates, the Delhi Meetei Co-ordinating Committee (DMCC) has urged the Government to abrogate the Suspension of Operation (SoO) pact and take up immediate action to stop armed aggression and narco-terrorism.
A press release issued by DMCC said that they  organised a press conference at the Press Club of India and made some resolutions.
Taking note of the armed aggression of Kukis and the displacement of thousands of families, the committee further urged the Government to prevent cross border illegal infiltration and detect and deport illegal migrants with or without forged documents and provide adequate relief and rehabilitation to the victims of the ongoing mayhem.
On Burmese refugees, DMCC asked the Government to detect and confine them  in designated shelters on humanitarian ground.
The committee also sought clarification from the Centre on the conduct of Assam Rifles as the paramilitary force has been accused of colluding with Kuki militants.
Saying that many Meeteis have lost faith in the Central security forces as people belonging to the ethnic group were targeted right in front of them, it asked the Government to replace the Assam Rifles with more professional Central forces.
There shouldn't be division of administration based on ethnic lines or on a segregated and isolated ethnic identity too, DMCC demanded.
It claimed that Meeteis are only holding ground in self defence and have been fighting against the malicious propaganda of lies that covered up the crime of Kukis  and projected India in a negative picture.
Asking why the Prime Minister is still silent and allowing the violence to continue when Manipur has been burning since the last 134 days, the committee said that the Centre can restore normalcy in Manipur instantly if there is a genuine political will.
It was the Kuki miscreants supported by Kuki narco-terrorists brandishing sophisticated weapons who, in the first place, carried out the most heinous offensive of ethnic cleansing of minority Meeteis from Kuki dominated Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Kangpokpi districts on May 3 .
Saying that sections of Kuki miscreants have been obstructing the War on Drugs  campaign and also the drive to detect illegal immigrants, the DMCC urged the Government to protect the reserved and protected forests and destroy all illegal poppy plantations in Manipur.
