UNC rally on Aug 9
Senapati, Aug 6: The United Naga Council (UNC) is organising a mass rally on August 9 starting from 10 am in all Naga areas of Manipur for resolving the Indo-Naga political issue based on Framework Agreement.
This was made known in a press release issued by the UNC on Sunday.
According to the UNC, the mass rally would be held at Tamenglong headquarters, Chandel headquarters, Ukhrul headquarters and Senapati headquarters.
The Indo-Naga peace process has made significant progress with the signing of the historic Framework Agreement between the Government of India (GoI) and National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) on August 3, 2015, said the UNC press release.
However, the inordinate delay in signing the final agreement is a cause for concern and has the potential to derail the peace negotiation, it said.
Addressing media, Vareiyo Shatsang, general secretary, UNC stated that rally was proposed to register their collective sentiment to the Govt of India for exercising political will to hammer out an early negotiated solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue in the spirit of Framework Agreement and to usher in enduring peace in Naga areas and the Northeast in general.
The UNC also appealed to all Naga citizens to participate in the proposed rally.
