IMPHAL, Aug 25 : Manipuri Judoka H Oliviya shone yet again as she clinched a bronze medal for India in the -44 kg category at the World Cadet Judo Championship 2023 hosted by Croatia in Zagreb.
Huidrom Oliviya who grabbed a gold medal at the Asian Cup Cadet Championship last month suffered a semi-final defeat against the category winner Rebeiro Clarice of Brazil to settle for the bronze medal on August 23.
Earlier in the pool competition (Pool B), H Oliviya got a first round bye and defeated her rivals from Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan to emerge pool winner.
Huidrom Oliviya is a daughter of Huidrom Ibomcha and Huidrom Ongbi Sobashini Devi of Mayang Imphal Konchak Mamang Leikai.
Brave Boys' Association (BBA) Mayang Imphal also celebrated her success at the world event and extended congratulations to the young judoka.
Manipur's Leishangthem Nungsithoi (-52 kg) who won a silver medal at the Asian event last month also represented India at the world event but she bowed out in the second round of the pool competition (Pool C).
Last year, Linthoi Chanambam scripted history by becoming the first Indian in any category to win a gold medal at a world championship.
