Locals throng Nongpok Sekmai Police Station demanding revocation of suspension of OC

THOUBAL, Jul 31: A large number of womenfolk from Nongpok Sekmai thronged the Nongpok Sekmai Police Station demanding the revocation of suspension of Nongpok Sekmai PS Officer in-charge K Premkumar Mangang.
The OC was suspended in connection with the outrageous viral video incident where two women were disrobed and paraded naked by a mob.
The womenfolk also locked the gate of the police station and deposited sand bags in front of the gate.
The protestors thronged the Nongpok Sekmai Police Station after staging a protest demonstration today at NESA ground in Nongpok Sekmai against the suspension of the OC demanding to hold a talk with Thoubal SP.
To pacify the irate locals, Additional SP (Ops) Thoubal came to the spot and held a dialogue however it failed to attain an amicable solution.
In view of the above, the locals locked the gate of the police station urging that a responsible and high ranking official who could fulfil their demands should come to meet them.
One of the women protestor said that it is unfortunate to suspend the OC based on a single viral video incident while no actions have been taken up against the perpetrators who committed heinous acts against the civilians ever since the outbreak of the violence on May 3.
Stating that it was impossible to control a mob of around 7000, she maintained that there have been incidents where law and order was completely out of one's hand.
Therefore, it is not justifiable to suspend the OC of Nonpok Sekmai PS in connection with the unfortunate event which took place on May 4.
If he has been suspended on the charge of failure to control the mob, then all the MLAs should resign on moral grounds for their inability to resolve the crisis which is one for almost three months now, she added.
