74th Van Mahotsav celebrated with tree plantation drives

THOUBAL, Jul 4: As a part of the seven-day 74th Van Mahotsav celebration, Thoubal Forest Division in association with Social Development Athletic Union (SDUC) Tekcham planted numerous tree saplings in the grounds of Tekcham High School today.
The tree plantation drive was attended by RK Amarjit, Conservator of Forest; Th Lokendro, DFO Thoubal; S Samungou, Thoubal Range Officer; L Dinesh, Kakching Range Officer; M Biren, Range Officer, Yangoupokpi Lokchao Wildlife Sanctuary (YLWS); L Iboyaima, Pradhan, Tekcham GP and many other notable personalities.
Following this, a team also inspected the trees planted last year in connection with Van Mahotsav.
Speaking in this connection, RK Amarjit expressed joy upon seeing the tree saplings planted last year in the adjoining area between Tekcham and Papal growing well and thriving.
He added that successfully planting trees and ensuring their prolonged survival requires a lot of efforts from the local populace. He urged people to emulate the good habit of planting trees and thus tackling the crisis of deforestation.
Separately, Thoubal Forest Division also organised another tree plantation drive at Ibudhou Mayang Ngamba Lampak today in connection with the 74th Van Mahotsav celebration.
The tree plantation drive was jointly organised by the Thoubal Forest Division, Waikhong Forest Beat of Kakching Range, Waikhong GP Pradhan and chief of Thongjao village.
Speaking on the occasion, Wangkhem Brojen, Pradhan, Waikhong GP urged people to plant at least five trees each in order to mitigate the large scale destruction of forests and deforestation which has occurred over the last few years.
Stating that the State Government and Forest Department have planted huge numbers of trees but it is tough to ensure their survival, he urged the people to work hard towards making sure that these tree saplings grow well.
It may be noted that many village leaders including Khumukcham Amujao, chief of Thongjao village planted around 500 tree saplings at today's drive.
