Thoubal, Jul 20 : Thoubal police have arrested at least four persons who were said to be a part of the mob which stripped two women and paraded them naked in public on May 4.
The video of the same has been circulated widely on social media, drawing even the first comment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the situation in Manipur.
One of the persons arrested has been identified as Huirem Haridas (32), s/o Late H Rajen of Yairipok Bishnunaha currently staying at Pechi Awang Leikai but the details of the others couldn't be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
Among the remaining three, one is believed to be one Manithoiba and he was arrested from Sikhong Sekmai.
Haridas, on the other hand, was arrested from Yairipok Bazar.
A large number of Meira Paibis of Pechi Khun flattened and set the residential place of Haridas on fire.
Speaking to the media by the sideline, one of the Meira Paibis said that no mother in the world would accept the shaming and torture of two Kuki women by a Meetei mob who paraded them (the two victims) naked.
Saying that they don't want any woman irrespective of their caste, creed or religion to be subjected to such inhumane shaming and torture, she urged the Government to arrest all the remaining culprits involved in the offence.
She further demanded that mob which tortured and paraded the two women naked must be ostracised from their respective localities.
Meanwhile, a large number of women from Yairipok obstructed Rapid Action Force (RAF) teams from heading towards Nongpok Sekmai by piling sand and stones at Ngariyan Chingkhong, Yairipok Azad Junction and Yairipok Bridge and it resulted in a heated stand-off.
The mob didn't disperse even after the RAF fired tear gas shells and the Central security personnel were unable to cross the roadblocks till the time of filing this report.
Two women were injured in the clash.
A large number of locals from Yairipok also took out a massive protest demanding arrest of all miscreants who outraged the modesty of two Kuki women.
Bishnunaha Youth Federation Yairipok (BYFY) president Laishram Ananda appealed to the Government to take up befitting legal actions against the culprits involved in the incident.
