Last rites of slain navy man performed

IMPHAL, Jul 1 : The mortal remains of merchant navy Waikhom Nilakamal who was killed by Kuki militants at Koutruk Senjam Chirang have been laid to rest (Leiron Chanba) at Tinsid Chingkhei Chingkhong, today.
The body of Nilakamal  alias Boicha (40) s/o Boiyai of Kongpal Khaidem Leikai was taken by his family members and hundreds of other people from JNIMS at Porompat after an autopsy and took out a procession along different routes before performing the last rites.
People in large number also came out to pay their respect by offering flowers to the  deceased during the procession at different areas and chanted slogans such as "Long Live Manipur", "Nilakamalna Yaifare", "Ima Manipurna Yaiphare", "Manipur Ngamkhei Kaiba Yaroi" etc.
From Porompat DC, the deceased was taken to his home at Kongpal Khaidem Leikai, during which hundreds of more people bid farewell to the fallen.
The mortal remains was then taken out for another round of procession towards Khurai Tinsid Road, Moirang-kampu before  laying the body to rest at Tinsid Chingkhei Chingkhong.
Speaking to media persons, Industrious Students' Association (ISA), Kongpal general secretary Mayanglambam Tom remembered Nilakamal as a big hearted, obedient, calm and a sports loving person.
Saying that Nilakamal was on vacation and had been waiting for his Visa arrival, he said that the deceased went to Koutruk on May 29 to help the people affected by the ongoing violence.
Claiming that Nilakamal was killed by Kuki terrorists, Tom claimed that the body of Nilakamal was also dismembered by the terrorists after being killed.
