IMPHAL, Jul 1: The National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW) is sending a detailed report of the Manipur crisis and people who have been displaced by the violence to the Union Home Minister, said its general secretary Annie Raja.
She announced this today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
Speaking to reporters, Annie Raja said a delegation of women of the NFIW came to Manipur on June 28 and they have visited and talked to the displaced people at relief camps in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Churachandpur district.
She said the displaced people on both sides (Meiteis and Kukis) expressed their desire to return home, but are afraid to return due to the present tension.
She said the situation is not conducive for their return.
The displaced people vented their anger at the Government for its failure to bring peace and added that the Chief Minister is not doing enough, Annie Raja said.
The violent conflict has taken the lives of many and burnt hundreds of houses. It has displaced thousands of people, including women and children.
The people on both sides want peace to return and the State Government should put in sincere efforts to bring normalcy, Annie Raja said.
Talking about the displaced people, she said the relief camps are facing shortage of water and drugs. The Government should provide all the essential items and medicine at the relief camps, she added.
Annie Raja further stressed on the need to provide means of earning livelihood to the people at the camps.
Independent Advocate Diksha Diwedi, a member of the delegates, said the State Government should invite both sides for talks to bring about a solution and restore peace.
She urged the Government to take up all measures to bring peace in the State at the earliest.
