Incensed mob torch house of one of the accused Nine held in connection with killing of Lucy Maring

IMPHAL, Jul 16 : Altogether nine individuals including five women have been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of a woman at Keibi Heikakmapal yesterday afternoon. The deceased woman has been identified as one M Lucy Maring
Meanwhile, the house of one Oinam Suraj alias Ibungo (27) s/o Bihari of Keibi Heikakmapal was set ablaze by a mob this evening for his alleged involvement in the killing of Lucy Maring.  
Briefing media persons at his office today, Imphal East SP Ksh Shivakanta stated that Lamlai Police Station registered a case under FIR number 32(7) 2023 in connection with the abduction and killing of the woman.
During the course of investigation, nine persons including five women have been arrested by Imphal East district police.
The arrested persons have been identified as Konsam Naocha alias Lanmeithanbi (43) s/o (L) Maipak of Huidrom Mayai leikai, Okram Samungou (38) s/o Ibomcha of Heikakmapal, Oinam Suraj alias Ibungo (27) s/o Bihari of Keibi Heikakmapal, Thounaojam Chingkheinganba alias Dhumba (25) s/o Megha of Sawombung Block, Ahanthem Sobita alias Aliyang Newmai (61) w/o (L) Panduri of Sawombung Maning leikai, Thounaojam Lata (63) w/o Pacha of Sawombung Block, Ayekpam Ashalata (56) w/o Ojit of Sawombung Gate, Ahanthem Ito Devi (50) w/o (L) Ibohal of Sawombung Gate and Ngasepam Sunita (42) w/o Tejmani of Sagolband Tera, presently staying at Keibi Heikakmapal.
The SP further stated that police recovered and seized one 303 rifle along with three live rounds from the possession of Konsam Naocha.
One country made 9 mm pistol was recovered and seized along with two live rounds from the possession of Okram Samungou.
During the preliminary interrogation, Konsam Naocha and Okram Samungou have confessed their involvement in shooting the woman.
Further investigation of the case is going on and other accused persons, if any, will be arrested and appropriate legal action will be taken up against them, SP Shivakanta said.  
The SP further requested the public not to indulge in such illegal and dastardly acts and inform the police immediately in future and not take the law into their hands. The arrested persons were produced before Duty Magistrate, Imphal East and they were remanded to police custody for seven days remand July 22.
