The Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation (MKRBF) has congratulated Moirangthem Punshiba who earned Manipur a gold medal in the recently concluded 5th Junior Boys National Boxing Championship which was held in Itanagar from July 9 to 14.
Boxers of the Mary Kom Boxing Academy along with parents of Punshiba and his well wishers from his native village Tentha Khongbal accorded a warm reception to Punshiba, other teammates and State boxing team officials as they landed at Imphal International Airport yesterday, MKRBF said in a statement.
Punshiba joined Mary Kom Boxing Academy at National Games Village, Langol in the year 2017 and had won several medals at the State level boxing championships earlier, noted MKRBF.
He is one of the future prospects and the foundation is looking forward to him with international winnings in the future, MKRBF said.
The academy is arranging training programmes for competition bound athletes and currently sub-junior athletes are preparing for the upcoming National championship despite the prevailing turmoil situation, it said.
The foundation also noted that two boxers from the academy have won silver medals at the Youth National Boxing Championship and one bronze medal at the Elorda Cup 2023 which was held in Kazakhstan last month.
Had there been proper and uninterrupted training prior to the competition, the State team could have won more medals in the 5th Junior Boys National Boxing Championship, it added.
