BPR/KAK, Jun 25: United Clubs Organisation Kwakta (UCOK) organised a protest demonstration at Kwakta Khuman Sandhong Bazar under Moirang AC calling for implementation of NRC in Manipur and upholding the territorial integrity of the State.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, a local leader by the name of Abdul Matalip Meraimayum has asserted that the recent bomb blast at Kwakta which left three children injured has awakened the locals and Pangal community of Kwakta and the community will henceforth take a significant role in resolving the conflict and protecting the integrity of Manipur.
Stating that Kwakta is inhabited people of different communities and that people of the area had welcomed people displaced by the ongoing conflict and provided them sanctuary, he said that previously Kwakta had maintained a very neutral stand with regards to the conflict. However, the recent bomb blast has awakened the community, he said.
He further said that the Pangal community of Manipur will oppose any force that seeks to threaten the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Abdul Matalip Meraimayum also lauded the Government's move of handing the Kwakta bomb blast case over to the NIA in response to the Pangal community's appeal to book the culprits within 48 hours.
Many from the Pangal community and Meiteis in Sandhong area also participated in today's protest.
The protestors held placards with messages such as "Manipur territorial integrity must remain intact", "Implement NRC in Manipur", "Resolve the conflict and restore peace and normalcy", "We want peace", "Stop war" etc.
Meanwhile, locals of Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai staged a protest denouncing the bomb blast of June 21 which occurred on the bridge atop Moirang River located between Kwakta and Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai.
A villager participating in the protest claimed that the bomb blast was designed to create a divide between the Meitei and Pangal community but he added that this ploy will never succeed.
He strongly condemned the blast, calling it as an attempt to harm the locals of the area and expressed grief over the injuries caused to three children by the powerful explosion.
Another local condemned the violence perpetrated by Kuki militants during the course of the ongoing conflict and the lack of action by Central security forces. He appealed to the State and Central Government to flush out the Kuki militants and resolve the conflict and ensure that the displaced families can safely return to their respective homes.
The protestors raised placards with message spreading "No separate administration", "Declare Kuki militants as terrorists" and "We condemn Kwakta bomb blast" etc.
Separately, locals staged a protest at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai demanding the State and Central Government to contain the violence perpetrated by Kuki militants under SoO pact and withdrawal of SoO pact as well as the Assam Rifles.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Kshetrimayum Indubala, president in-charge, BJP Kakching District stated that even though 10 MLAs have raised the call for a separate administration, it is time for the rest of the MLAs to unite to uphold the integrity of Manipur.
She added that the protests will continue until all illegal immigrants are flushed out from the State of Manipur. Further, she appealed to the State Government to take up concrete steps to ensure that farming activities can be taken up at the earliest.
