IMPHAL, May 7: Dr Vineet Joshi, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, has replaced Dr Rajesh Kumar as the new Chief Secretary.
An order issued to this effect today said Dr Vineet Joshi will be the new Chief Secretary (Finance/IT/DP/Cabinet/Planning) and Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Manipur and Principal Resident Commissioner, Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi in addition, with immediate effect and until further orders.
Dr Vineet Joshi is a 1992 Manipur cadre IAS officer and he was on Central deputation. In February 2022, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Notably, his appointment as the new Chief Secretary has come amid the tense and volatile situation prevailing in the State due to clashes between members of two communities that first erupted during ATSUM's "Solidarity Rally" on May 3.
Former Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar has been appointed as OSD (Officer on Special Duty) and Advisor, Infra Investment and Externally Aided Projects. He has also been appointed as Advisor to the Government of Manipur.
