IMPHAL, May 20: Arambai Tenggol has paid rich tribute to its member Khoirom Meiraba who lost his life during the violent clashes that started on May 3.
Born on February 13, 2003, Khoirom Meiraba, 20, was a gold medallist National Wushu player who had brought laurels for the State.
Meiraba was trying to save people and houses when he was shot several times on his leg in indiscriminate firing by Kuki militants at civilians at Torbung village on May 3.
He succumbed to his injuries the next day.
It may be noted that on May 3, armed Kuki militants and mobs, during ATSUM's Solidarity Rally, attacked civilians and burnt down several houses at Torbung in Bishnupur district.
Khoirom Meiraba was among many who tried to save people's lives and houses on the day.
He was the eldest and the only son among two children of Khoirom Sunil and Khoirom ongbi Ibemcha of Ithai Dam Makhong.
He left behind a wife, Khoirom Sanathoi and their one year and eight month old son.
Meiraba's remains were taken from RIMS morgue today and last rites were performed at his native place at Ithai Barrage.
His remains have been at RIMS since May 4.
When his remains were being brought from RIMS to Ithai Barrage by a large number of Arambai Tenggol members, people came out of their homes and paid floral tributes to the deceased.
When it reached Moirang Constituency, local MLA Thongam Shanti also paid floral tributes to the deceased.
At his house, a large number of people showed their respect and paid tributes to Meiraba.
Kumbi Assembly Constituency MLA Sanasam Premchandra and ex-MLA Sanasam Bira too paid their respect to Meiraba at his home and shared the grief and pain of the family members.
One of the members of Arambai Tenggol who came to RIMS to take the body said the group was founded to unify all people belonging to the faith of the Meitei.
Arambai Tenggol is not against any community and it wants peaceful coexistence of all indigenous communities, said the member.
