IMPHAL, Apr 18 : Having won 4 medals at the National Poker Series India-2023, Thiyam Dannish is eyeing to join noted players of India at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).
A pool prize of Rs 25 crore was offered in the National Poker Series India which was hosted online on PokerBaazi app and the thirty-three year old Dannish from Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai topped in four tournaments to pocket prize money worth Rs 8 lakh.
Speaking to The Sangai Express in a telephonic conversation, Thiyam Dannish who is currently partaking in a World Poker Tour in Goa said he has been playing poker, which has been officially categorized as one of the mental games, for around three and half years.
On being asked what attracts him most to poker, Dannish who is an MSc graduate in Aeronautical Engineering and former engineer said that there is a lot of money in the game but it takes a great deal of mathematical and logical thinking to finish big and win prizes.
"A skillful player can earn upto Rs 1 crore from Rs 1 lakh in a day in this game. So it is the handsome reward and the nature of the game which draw me into it," said Dannish, who grew up playing strategy games and solving puzzles.
He also said that many see poker as gambling game only because it is a card game but unlike other popular card games like Teen Patti and Rummy, it is also a game of skill and mind which is played both online and offline.
Dannish now identifies himself as a professional poker player and is aspiring to rise through the ranks and join eminent Indian professional players in the world championship.
