Workshop deliberates on vision Greater Imphal 2043

IMPHAL, Mar 4 : A workshop on "The GIS Based Master Plan of Greater Imphal for the Horizon Year-2043 was held today at City Convention Centre, Imphal.
The area covered by the master plan is 151.55 square kilometers comprising 27 Wards of Imphal Municipal Corporation, 16 Census Town, 5 Out-Growths and 56 villages as defined in the Census 2011.
The programme was attended by MAHUD Minister Y Khemchand, Chairman of PDA Manipur cum MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei, Professor at SPA Bhopal Dr Nikhil Ranjan Mandal and Commissioner of MAHUD M Joy Singh.
Speaking as the chief guest, Y Khemchand said that working on such an important topic is a good initiative.
Saying that the workshop was held particularly to envisage Manipur in 20 years, the Minister maintained that there are many problems in Greater Imphal such as road congestion, situation at Khwairamband Keithel possibly due to lack of planning.
He reiterated that the workshop was held to take suggestions and rectify the common problems in Greater Imphal areas.
MLA L Rameshwor, on the other hand, said that the preparation of a master plan as envisaged in the workshop is crucial as population in Manipur is increasing despite being a small State.
Reportedly, the GIS based master plan of Greater Imphal for 2043 is to make Imphal a sustainable regional growth centre and a gateway to other Asia countries through land, infrastructure, socio economic and environmental management.
The preparation was taken up as Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) with 100 per cent funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
