State level conference on "Human Trafficking" conducted

A State level conference on "Human Trafficking" was held on yesterday at 1st MR Banquet Hall under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Women's Safety Division, Government of India.
The conference was attended by P. Doungel, IPS, DGP, Manipur; Arvind Kumar, IPS, ADGP (Trg) and Ashutosh Kumar Sinha, IPS, ADGP (Int) as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively, said a press release by IGP (Trg), Manipur Police Department
The conference covered wide range of issues relating to human trafficking with four lecture sessions.
The first session was on "Definition, Causes and types of Human Trafficking: Modus Operandi of Human Trafficking, Suggestions of Law Enforcers, Law Makers and Social Welfare Department" by Keisham Pradipkumar, former member of Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR).
The second session was on "Expectations of the Social Welfare Department from the Law Enforcing Agencies, NGOS, Society and Law makers. Facilities available in Social Welfare Department and NGOS to provide help to the victims of Human Trafficking" by Binobala Nongmeikapam, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department.
While the third session was on the topic "Current laws on Human Trafficking in India and its efficacy, Area for Amendment of the Law" by Advocate Ch Momon Singh and the fourth session on the topic "Shortcomings on the part of the law enforcement agencies in Manipur in Preventing Human Trafficking" by Shivanand Surve, IPS, SP/CCP District.
