IMPHAL, Feb 26 : Mehul Shreth shone with both the bat and ball as ESU-Wangkhei pulled off a huge 127 run victory over UCC-Uripok in the opening match of the 2nd MNCA Superplate Tournament at Kongba Khunou Dhobi Lampak.
Chongtham Mehul Shreth slammed 65-ball 85 and Thokchom Nishikanta was just a run away from hitting a half century as ESU racked up huge 276 runs for 9 in allotted 40 overs.
ESU then bowled out UCC for 149 runs in 29 overs courtesy Mehul Shreth and Chitaranjan Sharma for their first Group B win in the 16-team tournament organised in league cum knock-out tournament. M Bimananda also added a significant 41 runs to ESU tally as Hanjabam Naoba and Sanatomba managed 21 and 28 runs respectively in this innings which saw UCC's Asar Hussain picked three wickets and Leishangthem Bishorjit and Konsam Gulson shared two wickets each.
In the chase, UCC never looked in contention and wrapped up their innings at 149 runs in 29 overs as Mehul Shreth enjoyed a fifer for 31 runs in 5 overs and Chitaranjan Sharma grabbed three crucial wickets for 24 runs in 6 overs.
Mehul Shreth eventually earned himself the man of the match accolade.
