Blood donation camp, cancer awareness programme held

Under the theme of "Share Your Love by Donating Blood", the Lions Club of Imphal Greater organized a voluntary blood donation camp and cancer awareness programme at Blood Bank & Transfusion Unit, JNIMS today.
A press note by the Club said that the blood donation camp is the 32nd Edition of the Voluntary Blood Donation Camp organized by Lions Club of Imphal Greater and Lions Club International 322D while the cancer awareness programme was organized in connection with the International Childhood Cancer Day.
During the camp, students of JNIMS and members of Lions Club of Imphal Greater donated blood. Altogether, 63 units of blood were collected.
And as a part of the cancer awareness programme, non medical items and edible items were distributed to the cancer patients who are undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
While speaking at the occasion, Lion L Upendro Sharma, President of the Lions Club and Dr Kh Lokeshwar, Medical Superintendent of JNIMS stressed on the need of blood donation.  They appealed to all to donate blood once in a year to prevent shortage of blood in times of need.
Many resource persons  spoke about the cancer and requirements of blood in treating cancer.
Lion Dr K Surjit Singh, Chairperson of the twin project, Lion L Ashok Kumar, Secretary of the club and other key members of the club also attended the programmes.
During today's blood donation camp, Lion Arun Thongam of Lions Club of Imphal Greater Manipur donated blood for the 23rd time.
On the other hand, Life Savers Manipur in association with State Blood Cell-National Health Mission Manipur, SBTC Manipur and Department of Transfusion Medicine RIMS organised a blood donation camp today on the theme 'Blood dedicated to the needy patients'.
A press note by Life Savers Manipur informed that the blood donation camp was held at the Department of Transfusion Medicine RIMS in connection with the 75th blood donation of blood donor Khundrakpam Premjit of Lamdeng Makha Leikai.
Many blood donors donated blood during today's camp. The resource persons while speaking at the occasion highlighted the importance of donating blood to overcome the issue of blood shortage in times of need.
