Ningthemcha Sana Yaima highlights importance of literature

IMPHAL, Feb 9: The 1st anniversary of Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup was observed today at the auditorium of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy.
Ningthemcha Sana Yaima, former chairman of an underground outfit; W Amuchou Meitei, president Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup; writer Rajendra Okram; Playwright, critic and Cultural Worker and Activities Forum Manipur president Budha Chingtham; AMMIK president Khaidem Thoiba; Social workers Robin Brekkei and Sovid Elangbam and Advocate and columnist of the Sangai Express, Khaidem Londonbala graced the occasion as the presidium members. As a part of the programme, a poetry reading session by Chingakham Justin Khanganba was held and Nachom Band presented a song and musical presentation.
Media persons were also honoured with simple gifts during the programme.
Speaking as the chief guest, Ningthemcha Sana Yaima extended best wishes to Apunba Khorirolgee Malemgee Lup on the occasion of its first anniversary.
Expressing that indigenous literature forms a vital part of the culture and tradition of a society, he said that literature is the medium to portray one's feelings and thoughts on various societal issues and happenings of day to day life.
He also underscored the importance of research on one's indigenous literature to safeguard its lineage.
In view of the degrading culture and tradition, he stressed that the writers and those who are into this field to come up with literature pieces highlighting the significance of adhering to indigenous cultural and traditional practices so as to preserve it.
