Ukhrul, Dec 8: Khokha Yar Ukhrul Secondhand Association (KYUSA), Ihao Group, 35 Assam Rifles, Somsai and well wishers donated relief materials to Myanmar refugees taking shelter at Dang Capital relief camp in Kheronram Huimin Thana in Kamjong district.
The relief materials include blankets, clothes, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary napkins etc.
According to the proprietor of Dang Capital, Gideon Shadang, over 609 Myanmarese including 263 females, 246 males and 100 children are taking refuge in the said relief camp after they fled Myanmar due to heavy gun fighting between rebel groups and Myanmar military junta.
Gideon further mentioned that the Raizan Traders Association (RTA) and Kheronram Development Committee of Ramphoi village have been running the camp since November 22, spending more than Rs 6 lakhs on looking after these Myanmar refugees.
Regular health check ups for the refugees are being done by doctors and medical staff of Kamjong District Hospital to address their health concerns and promote good health, he added.
He also thanked all philanthropists for providing humanitarian assistance for smooth functioning of Dang Capital relief camp.
James Shimthar Kasar, Additional SP of Kamjong who was also present at the occasion, informed that Kamjong police along with the District Administration have been carrying out verification drive of all cross-border migrants by collecting details such as name, nationality, age, sex, village, etc. along with biometric data.
No movement is permitted beyond the designated camp set up in various villages and is strictly monitored by the security forces, he added.
The refugees are majorly from Thanan, Aungzaya, Nangmo, Zeti, Mantoh, Phailen and Soetharyar villages of Myanmar.
