IMPHAL, Dec 26 : CYCLONE-Thangmeiband outlasted YPHU-Lalambung Makhong with a 74-run thrashing for the second Group D win in the ongoing 20th Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament.
The result meant that YPHU are out of the tournament with two losses in three matches while CYCLONE confirmed their place in the quarter finals with two wins in three group matches.
YWC-L have also secured a quarter final berth with two straight victories and will play UCC-Red in the last Group D encounter on December 30.
CYCLONE, who bounced back with a 10 wicket win over UCC red in the previous game following their first game defeat to YWC-L, racked up a competitive 204 runs for 6 wickets after being put in to bat first at Langthabal Public Ground.
CYCLONE then restricted YPHU to 131 runs for 9 wickets in 28.4 overs thanks to Rohindro's 5 wicket haul (5/9 in 4 overs) to seal the huge victory.
Robinson topscored for CYCLONE with a 46-ball 50 as Shasi 45 and Lamnganba 35 followed suit to help the team post a commanding total of 205 runs. The innings saw Dularva clinching two wickets while Surjit, Gyanranjan, Boiton and Dorendro claimed a wicket apiece.
In the chase, Boiton 50 and K Jagajit 18 (retd hurt) gave YPHU a promising start but Rohindro rattled the batting line up to finish with a fifer to restrict them to 131/9 in 28.4 overs.
W Surjit also fetched two wickets to pile pressure of YPHU batters as S Robindro and Tarun claimed a wicket apiece.
Ph Rohindro who scored 14 runs and picked 5 wickets in 4 overs was adjudged man of the match.
UCC-Blue will play OSCAR-Paona Bazar in the next match (Group A) tomorrow.
