IMPHAL, Dec 20 : The 190th birth anniversary of Paona Brajabashi was celebrated at Rupmahal Theatre in Imphal on Wednesday.
During the birth anniversary observation jointly organised by Rupmahal Theatre and GM Publication Keishamthong, a book titled "Paona Brajabashi amasung Khongjom Lan" was also released.
The celebration was attended by Art & Culture Commissioner M Joy Singh, RIMS Clinical Psychology former HoD Mayengbam Akshayakumar Singh, Rupmahal Theatre vice chairman Laithongbam Brajamohan Singh, Guru Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy pradhan guru Leimapokpam Lakpati Singh and writer/ critic Laishram Memo Singh as presidium members.
The event began with a group flok song followed by a speech from artist Naorem Rajendro Singh.
Addressing the gathering, M Joy Singh recalled the contributions and sacrifice made by Paona Brajabashi who stood up to the mighty British forces and fought valiantly to safeguard Manipur’s freedom.
The Commissioner also stressed on the need for further studies into historical events like the Khongjom War 1891 to get the facts instead of relying solely on British documentations of the history in the London Gazette.
