Children's Day celebrated with painting competition, distribution of winter clothes

IMPHAL, Nov 14: The District Administration Imphal East, Social Welfare Department District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Imphal East and ENM Crafteria jointly organised a Children's Day celebration at the Sajiwa Jail prefabricated shelter homes under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign today.
114 children from the prefabricated shelter homes participated in a painting competition held in connection with Children's Day celebration and prizes were distributed to the winners.
Winter clothes were also distributed to 275 children under the supervision of the District Child Protection Unit.
Speaking on the occasion, Khumanthem Diana Devi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Imphal East shared that District Administration Imphal East is celebrating Children's Day at the Sajiwa Jail prefabricated shelter homes while the Imphal East SDO has organised many sporting events in various locations of the district.
Stating that the painting competition was conducted to lift the children's spirits, she added that ENM Crafteria had supplied the necessary items for the painting competition.
The children are also being provided with basic painting classes, she added.
Commenting on the education of children at relief camps, she maintained that the Government is pulling out all stops  to ensure that every single child is receiving education and that their academic career gets least adverse impacts.
Despite some difficulties in transportation, all children in relief camps attend school and the Government is also providing various facilities in this regard including distribution of textbooks from time to time, she added.
In addition, civil society organisations and private individuals continue to extend assistance in the form of stationery items such as notebooks, pens, pencils etc. For this, she expressed her gratitude towards these organisations and people for helping the displaced children.
The Government has also issued instructions to ensure adequate supply of milk and other essential food items for the children.
