IMPHAL, Oct 30 : Mega Manipur School in association with the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change today initiated the project "Waste to wealth" to inculcate a sense of climate friendly behaviour among school children.
Director of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur, Dr T Brajakumar Singh launched the project donating two Bottle Banks to the students of the school.
The programme held at Mega Manipur School Complex was attended by Th Joykumar Singh, MD Thangjam Agro Industries Pvt Ltd, S Itombi of SJ Plastics, T Sanajaoba Singh chairman Mega Manipur School, Aton Lungar principal Mega Manipur School and Yumnam Rupachandra secretary Mega Manipur Society among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr T Brajakumar emphasized on the need for students to begin the fight for climate, right from the kitchen.
Appreciating the school for making students aware of the problem plastic poses to the environment, he urged the students to try to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic as much as possible.
Th Joykumar Singh spoke on what industries like Likla which uses plastic are doing to tackle the plastic problem.
While stating that plastic has become very convenient for all, he said, "Responsible disposal of plastic is essential so that we have a win-win situation where we save our planet yet we use plastic responsibly".
Yumnam Rupachandra said, "The idea of waste to wealth is not a new one, a school in Assam takes plastic bottles from students instead of school fees".
He urged the students of Mega Manipur School through its Eco Clubs to bring plastic bottles, used books and clothing so that the same may be reused to reduce their personal carbon footprint on this planet.
T Sanajaoba Singh appreciated the Directorate of Environment & Climate change for partnering with Mega Manipur School.
