Students of Manipur University of Culture (MUC), Palace Compound, today staged a candlelight vigil at the University's Administrative Block Complex to express sorrow and demand justcie for the horrific & senseless killing of two innocent students, Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit.
The candlelight vigil was staged under the theme, "Fight for justice not for revenge".
At the event, the students of MUC denounced the excessive use of force by Security Forces against students protesting the tragic murder of two teenagers.
They also urged the Government and authorities concerned to take necessary steps to recover the bodies of two innocent students at the earliest and hand them over to their families.
The students also observed two minutes of silence to pray for the departed souls to rest in peace in the heavenly abode.
Similarly, students, teachers and staff of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur, also staged a candlelight vigil on Monday to pray for the souls of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit to rest in peace.
The students also shouted various slogans demanding justice for the gruesome murder of the two innocent students.
Meanwhile, Yaingangpokpi Apunba Meira Paibi, Thamnapokpi Apunba Meia Paibi, Sanasabi Meira Paibi and Youth Progessive Front Club today jointly organised a "Meira Protest" at Yaingangpoki Bazar in Imphal East district against the adbduction, torture and cold-blooded murder of Hijam Linthoingambi and Phijam Hemanjit.
A large number of Meira Paibis took part in the protest holding candles/ torches and shouted slogans such as, "Safeguard territorial integrity of Manipur", "Eliminate Narco terrorism", "Punish killers of innocent students", etc.
At the protest, the Meira Paibis vehemently condemned the brutal murder of two innocent students and urged the Government to award capital punishment to all the perpetrators.
They also observed two minutes of silence to pay respect to all those who had lost their lives in the ongoing conflict which began on May 3 last.
Besides, the Meira Paibis of Yaingangpokpi, Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi have also condoled the untimely demise of Ema Memchoubi, influential woman activist and president of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM).
