Products worth around Rs 3 lakh made by displaced people sold till date, says Thoubal DC

THOUBAL, Oct 20: 'In a remarkable development, products worth around Rs 3 lakh made by displaced people staying in relief camps at Khangabok and Wangjing Kodompokpi have been sold till date'.
Deputy Commissioner Thoubal, Ahanthem Subhash, IAS  informed the above while speaking to media persons at the sidelines of an inspection visit carried out today at relief camps opened at Rice Research Centre, Khangabok and District Sports Complex, Wangjing Kodompokpi.
The DC was accompanied by the staff of Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Cooperation Limited in today's visit. The team procured the products made by the inmates which include candle products, kouna (water reed) products such as bags, baskets and incense sticks etc.
Furthermore, the team also took stock of how the inmates are making these products.
The DC handed over money to the inmates of Rice Research Centre Khangabok relief camp in exchange of their products.
Speaking at the occasion, the DC said that skill development training for the inmates were launched under the aegis of the District Administration Thoubal for the welfare and sustainability of these people who have been compelled to take refuge in relief camps ever since the outbreak of the communal conflict in the State since May. All raw materials and equipment needed have also been provided by the District Administration, he added.
He further informed that the funds raised from the sale of the products are handed over to the inmates.
The DC also expressed gratitude to Manipur Handlooms and Handicrafts Cooperation Limited for procuring the products and supporting the displaced people amid this tough phase.
The DC expressed that such gesture and support will help the inmates considerably to enhance their economic and social status.
Assuring that he will extend all forms of support to the displaced people, the DC appealed to them to utilise the skills acquired during the skill development programmes for their sustainability rather than feeling demotivated by the prevailing conflict situation.
The inmates also lauded the initiatives taken by the relevant authorities considering their plights and expressed belief that such welfare schemes will continue.
