IMPHAL, Sep 30: Befitting tribute was paid to the visionary leader Lamyanba Hijam Irabot on his 127th birth anniversary celebration held widely today across the State and beyond as Irabot Day.
The day witnessed lecture sessions on the ideals and contributions of the visionary leader, paying of tributes and conduct of cleanliness and plantation drive.
The Irabot Day Observation Committee, Wangjing Tentha AC celebrated the 127th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot at the hall of Khorilol Sandoklup located at Wangjing New Bazar.
The day was marked by paying floral tributes to the statue of Lamyanba Irabot erected at Wangjing New Bazar.
Former Associate Professor of YK College Wangjing, L Bondas; former Senior Lecturer of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School Thoubal, S Chaoba and Advisors of Wangjing Tentha Kendra Development Committee, L Brajeshor, S Kesho and Md Yaima graced the occasion as the presidium members.
As a part of the programme, two minute silence was observed in the honour of martyrs of Manipur conflict.
Meira Paibis and Pioneer Club of Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai in Thoubal district observed the day at the club ground by paying tribute to the portrait of Lamyanba Irabot.
An interaction programme on the theme 'Indigenous People in Manipur' was held and a football match was also played as a part of the observation.
Irabot Day observance was held at Khangabok UYC campus organised by Meitrabak Chanura Thoubal district branch.
The attendees paid homage to the photo of Lamyanba Irabot and observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the precious lives laid down in the conflict.
Slogans were also raised demanding justice for the two young students killed in this conflict and against the brutal crackdown on the protesting students by security forces.
In connection with the Irabot Day celebration, students and teachers of Royal Academy of Law, Oinam in Bishnupur district conducted a cleanliness drive at Oinam Bazar today.
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the NSS unit of the academy in association with the governing body , teaching, non-teaching staff and students organised the 127th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irabot at the seminar hall of the academy.
Chairman of the governing body, L Radhakeshwor, Secretary I Jugeshwor Singh and Principal of the academy Eliza Maisnam graced as the presidium members of the programme. The Manipuri diaspora of Bangladesh commemorated the 127th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot at Bhanubill in Kamalganj under Moulvibazar district, Bangladesh organised by the Integrated Manipuri Association (IMA) Bangladesh.
The day commenced with the hoisting of Salai Taret flag, Bangladesh flag and IMA Bangladesh flag in front of the statue of Lamyanba Irabot installed at Bhanubill followed by paying of floral tribute, a poetry reading session for students and cultural programme.
The Manipuri residing in Jiribam and Assam also joined in observing the day recounting the ideals and principles of the visionary leader.
The day was observed at Irawat Complex in Jiribam district today organised by Jananeta Irabot Memorial Trust (JIMET). As a part of the observation, a candlelight vigil was held at Irawat complex in the evening.
Meanwhile Manipuri Youths Front of Assam (MYFA) in association with Ema Meira Paibi Lup of Joypur Mayai Leikai and All Assam Manipuri Student Union also celebrated Irabot Day at different locations.
The observance of the 127th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was held at Atomyaima Junior High School, Keibul Lamjao organised by the Irabot Day Celebration Committee Keibul Lamjao.
The committee honoured meritorious students of the area and individuals who have achieved commendable feats by presenting certificates and simple gifts.
In line with Irabot Day observation, plantation drive and cleanliness drive was held at various locations in Thoubal district.
Leisangthem Chaokhat Lup conducted a plantation drive at the campus of Thoudam Leisangthem High School attended by the staff and members of the school management committee.
On the other hand, a cleanliness drive was held along the road of Khekman organised by Khekman Youth Progressive Organisation.
Irabot Day was also observed at Yawabung Keithel Shang organised by Keirak United Development Association (KUDA); Heirok Part III Ngarouthel Leikai organised by Heirok Development Club and Tentha Makha Leikai jointly organised by Tentha Makha Leikai Youth Development Organisation and Tentha Makha Leikai Meira Paibi.
