Ahead of G20 Summit Khemchand inspects potential sites

MOIRANG, Jan 29: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Yumnam Khemchand today inspected potential tourism sites and landmarks of Moirang and surrounding areas which could attract delegates of G20 Summit.
Speaking to media persons in the course of the inspection tour, Khemchand appealed to all the people to keep their surrounding areas neat and clean.
The Government alone would not be able to keep all public places neat and clean, Khemchand said.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking a pivotal role in holding the G20 Summit in India, the Government of India asked the State Government to make necessary arrangements to host certain events of the summit in Manipur, he said.
This is rather a good fortune for the State of Manipur, Khemchand remarked.
Saying that it is essential for the State of Manipur to make a good impression upon the G20 delegates as and when they visit the State, the RD&PR Minister appealed to all the Ministers and MLAs hailing from Manipur to help in keeping Moirang and surrounding areas neat and clean.
He appealed to all the people settled along NH-150 (Imphal-Churachandpur road) not to litter waste materials along the highway.
He appealed to all the Panchayats, Gram Sabhas and Municipal Councils to clean and tidy up the highway.
“We need to show to the whole world in general and G20 delegates in particular that Manipur is a neat and tidy place”, Khemchand said.
The G20 committee is not assigned to look after all the details. Their responsibility is limited to identification of the sites/places which can be visited by G20 delegates, he continued.
He also exuded confidence that the G20 delegates would help in taking up some major projects in the State.
The team led by Y Khemchand also included Water Resources Minister Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar, MSPDCL Chairman MLA T Robindro, MLA Thongam Shanti, MLA S Premchandra, LDA Chairman M Asnikumar and many key leaders of BJP.
Starting from Sangai Ethnic Park of Moirang Khunou, they inspected INA headquarters, INA Martyrs’ Complex, INA War Museum, Loktak Inland Waterway of Sendra, Sendra hillock, Thanga’s Chaoba Ching and Nurathel Garden of Takmu. They instructed the concerned engineers and workers to complete the incomplete portions of Sangai Ethnic Park and INA headquarters at the earliest.
