IMPHAL, Sep 4 : Students of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) staged a sit-in in protest denouncing the act of vandalising the institute's properties by a group of people yesterday.
The protest demonstration was staged in front of the institute at Porompat.
Speaking to media persons, Vice Principal of SIMS Sushima Loitongbam said that a group of people targeting the institute over the alleged incident of defling one of its students by the founder cum managing director of the institute Y Surjitkumar was very unfortunate.
Saying that Y Surjitkumar is no longer associated with SIMS, the Vice Principal said that the problem is between the founder and the student and the institute has nothing to do with it.
Claiming that a huge sum of money kept to distribute the salary of its staff and many important documents were lost after the 'mob' vandalised several properties of the institute, Sushima asked who will take responsibility for the damage caused.
One of the protesting students urged all concerned not to disturb the academic atmosphere of the institute which has over 500 students for a certain disappointment but to face the case with the accused directly.
Yesterday, members of the 'JAC Against Rape and Sexual Harassment, SIMS' stormed the campus of Saina Institute of Medical Science (SIMS) and vandalised several properties including an ambulance, computer sets, ambulance, window glasses etc.
The situation was put under control after Imphal East police came to the site and arrested a few protesters.
