Local bodies demand

IMPHAL, Sep 4: A public meeting held at Thangmeiband Athletic Union Club today in connection with the drug bust at Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai on September 1 has demanded to keep the apprehended persons in custody until the owners of the seized drug have been arrested.
The meeting was attended by Khundrakpam Ambrabati, president, Watham Leirak Meira Paibi; Soubam Ebechoubi,  president, THAU Meira Paibi; Mayanglangbam Ebeyaima, president, Khonthongmanbi Meira Paibi; Khumukcham Bira Meitei, secretory, Meisnam Leikai Makha Singlup and Koijam Krishna Gopal, president, THAU  among others.
RK Joychandra, secretary, THAU also shared that the gathering has also resolved to ban the sale and purchase of illicit substances in Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai and to ensure that shops and hotels in the areas covered under THAU close their shutters by 9 pm in view of these circumstances.
Further, he strongly condemned the incident of September 1 and urged the concerned authority and legal professionals from extending any help towards those individuals who were arrested in this connection.
Lastly, he added that a committee will be formed in this connection at the earliest.
Those who act in violation of the resolutions passed will have to bear the consequences doled out by the Club, he maintained.
