The 53rd foundation day celebration of Manipur State Museum was held at its premises today.
The programme was organized by the Regional News Unit All India Radio, Imphal and the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur.
Speaking as the chief guest, Education Minister, Th Basantakumar expressed that museum reflects the art, culture, heritage of a society.
'We can get an understanding of the culture of a country when we visit their respective museums', he added.
He also stressed on the need of making concerted efforts for the development of State Museum as it is the most important cultural institution of the State.
He further expressed that measures should be taken up to ensure that students should visit the museum so that they can have a better understanding of the culture and heritage of Manipur and go beyond their textbooks.
He also appreciated the museum authorities and staff for maintaining the museum very well in spite of staff shortage and other issues.
As a part of the programme, the Minister inaugurated a 'Temporary Exhibition of Gold and Rare Masterpieces of Manipur State Museum' and also released the 8th Edition Newsletter of Manipur State Museum.
As a part of the programme, a prize distribution ceremony of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Weekly Quiz Competition was also held
Dr K Sobita Devi, former Director Arts & Culture, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC MLA, S Kebi Devi and Assistant Director (News), AIR, Imphal, Gin Gangte also graced the occasion as presidium members.
