Th Biswajit launches workshop

IMPHAL, Sep 18: Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh has categorically asserted that so long as culture sees growth, the community surrounding that culture will also advance.
The Minister made this statement during the launching of a workshop on "Study of origin and style of classical dance selected Bhangees (Gostha Bhangee, Gopee Bhangee)" held at the auditorium of JN Dance Academy today.
It may be noted that the 20-day workshop was organised by Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Imphal.
During the function, a souvenir to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Centre was also released. Aside from this, a documentary film directed by Amar Maibam highlighting the journey of the Centre was also shown to the gathering.
Later the individuals involved in the making of the documentary film were also honoured.
Speaking on the occasion, the Power Minister stated that culture and sports are the major signifiers of Manipur that represent the State in the global stage.
Hailing the artforms of the State, he said that they evoke a sense of curiosity among the onlookers. He also called upon people to show patronage to the artforms and sports of Manipur and aid in their rapid growth so as to show the unique charm of Manipur to the rest of the world.
The Minister also urged veterans in the field of art and culture to make suggestions for its advancement to the State authority. He laid assurance that the Government will do everything in its power to fulfil them.
The event was also attended by Dr E Indira Devi, principal, Meitei Traditional Dance Teaching School and Performing Centre, Imphal; Dr K Sobita, former Director, Art and Culture Department and Pukhrambam Bilas, Director, JN Dance Academy as the presidium members.
