IMPHAL, Sep 14 : Continuing to mount pressure on the Government to send the needed report to the Centre so that Meeteis/Meiteis can be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list, the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee of Manipur (STDCM) staged a sit in protest at Pureiromba Keithel, Konung Mamang today.
The protest demonstration was jointly organised by STDCM and Pureiromba Ima Keithel Seva Lup (PIKSL). Speaking to media persons, PIKSL secretary Namabam Baby  urged the State Government to take up the steps to include Meetei/Meitei in the ST list.
Asking why the State Government is hesitating to send the recommendation sought by the Centre for enlistment of the ethnic group in the ST list, she said that the Meetei/Meitei is facing problems in different fronts and as such some sort of Constitutional protection must be 'given to us.'
She also said the women vendors are very disappointed with the Government for not taking the matter seriously.
The protesting women resolved to extend full support to all initiatives taken up by STDCM to  protect the Meetei/Meitei.
They also chanted slogans such as "No ST status, no rail line," and "We demand inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the ST list."
