STDCM continues ST tag demand with sit-in

IMPHAL, Aug 31 : The Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest at Khurai Lamlong Keithel demanding enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Indian Constitution.
The protest demonstration was staged along with the volunteers of Khurai Lamlong Keithel Apunba Nupi Lup, Union of Social Upliftment and clubs based in Khurai.
Speaking to media persons, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit said that the committee and like minded people have been demanding some sort of Constitutional protection for the ethnic group since the last 10 years or so.
Saying that the Government has only been turning a deaf ear to the demand of STDCM, he urged the State Government to do the needful without awaiting strong agitation.
The STDCM has been urging the Govt to send the ethnographic and socio-economic reports of the Meetei/Meitei  for inclusion in the ST list to the Centre.
Notably, the World Meetei Council (WMC) has also resolved to support the movement of STDCM which resumed on August 26 last.
