IMPHAL, Aug 31 : Even as the Session Judge Imphal West on Wednesday rejected the anticipatory bail applications filed by the guest lecturers and Assistant Director of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Porompat, the High Court of Manipur granted interim pre-arrest bail till September 7 to the main accused in the case.
The anticipatory bail filed by the main accused against the Officer in Charge of Imphal West women police station was listed in motion before the Court.
The petitioner counsel submitted that the main accused approached the Session Judge Imphal West and filed two anticipatory bail applications, but the first one was withdrawn on August 24 while the second application was dismissed. who have been accused of associating with the Managing Director cum founder of the institute Yumnam Surjit-kumar, s/o Y Saratchandra Mangang of Khurai Kongkham Leikai in 'kidnapping' a student on August 14 last.
On the other hand, the co accused guest lecturers Sonia Yambem @ Nonibala Chanu (29), d/o Y Kulla Devi of Bamon Kampu Yambem Leikai, Laishram Kunjarani Devi, (28), d/o Laishram Ibopishak Singh of Top Khongnang Makhong and Assistant Director SK Wajid Shah of Saina Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS) Porompat didn't appear before the Court during the announcement of the order.
The counsel for the petitioners, during the hearing, submitted that the petitioners have no role in the case registered against them as they simply attended a picnic organized by their employer.
On the other hand, the APP stated that the petitioners who are co accused in the case have not disclosed their roles in the case and were well aware of the incidents.
The APP also submitted that there are ample materials to establish the involvement of co accused in abducting the 'victim' and prayed that the bail application be rejected.
The Court after hearing both parties observed that the involvement of Sonia Yambem, Laishram Kunjarani and SK Wajid Shah in hatching conspiracy with Yumnan Surjitkumar to abduct the 'victim' is apparent.
The Court then rejected the bail application and also vacated the interim pre arrest bail given earlier to the three co accused.
On the other hand, the Single Bench of High Court of Manipur granted interim pre-arrest bail till September 7 to the main accused Yumnam Surjitkumar.
