Farmer FIRST Programme launched

The Directorate of Extension Education, CAU, Imphal launched the Farmer FIRST (farm, innovation, resources, science and technology) Programme at Shangshak Khullen, Ukhrul district on August 30.
Dignitaries present at the launching event include Dr Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal; Professor Ph Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education and  Principal Investigator of the Farmer FIRST Programme, CAU, Imphal; Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, College of Agriculture, CAU, Iroisemba; Dr SV Ngachan, Professor CPGS-AS, Umiam, Barapani and former director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, Barapani, Meghalaya; Joy Horam, President, Kisan Sangh, Shangshak Khullen, Ukhrul; Major Abhishek Tiwari, CO, 24 AR, Shangshak Khullen and Ngazekmi Shishak, Headman, Shangshak Khullen.
The function was launched by Dr Anupam Mishra, meanwhile Professor Ph Ranjit Sharma highlighted the important points of the programme.
Later Dr Anupam Mishra distributed farm equipment, Rabi vegetable seeds, poultry chicks etc to the beneficiary farmers of Shangshak Khullen in connection with launching of Farmer FIRST Programme.
This was followed by a farmer-scientist interaction programme during which Dr Solei Luiram, Senior Scientist & Head, Ukhrul was also present.
Around 15 faculty members, project staff of CAU, Imphal and roughly 200 villagers and farmers attended the programme.
It is worth noting that the Farmer FIRST Programme was initiated by the PMO and currently runs FFP programmes in 51 centres in the nation. Three of them are run in the North East region at Umiam, Meghalaya; Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat and CAU, Imphal.
CAU, Imphal is presently initiating this project in two hill districts of Manipur namely, Maopungdong village, Senapati district and Shangshak Khullen village, Ukhrul district.
