IMPHAL, Aug 30: The 14th foundation day celebration of All Manipur Muslim Girl Students' Union was held today at Classic Regency Hall, North AOC.
The event was graced by Hasina Begum, Adhyaksha, Thoubal district ZP; Laishram Bobby, Up-Adhyaksha, Imphal West ZP; Ng Uttam, MCS, Director, Social Welfare Department; Md Yaseer Ahamed Khan, MCS, CEO, Waqf Board, Manipur and Deputy Secretary MAHUD; Md Nurjaman alias Denny, Pradhan, Kairang Khomidok GP; Md Kamaruddin, former Pradhan, Changamdabi GP and Ruskhar Choudhury, advisor, AMMGSU as the presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, Ruskhar Choudhury stated that the function was organised to celebrate the 14 years of existence of AMMGSU since its inception.
She also highlighted the condition of women in the State saying that in a lot of households, the elders prioritise the male child over the female.
Women are still viewed as somebody to be married off meanwhile parents try to ensure that their male children receive higher education.
Ruskhar Choudhury also stressed upon the negative effects of unchecked use of smartphones by young children, specially those between Classes VII-XII.  She said that their immature brains will absorb many inappropriate things and this will consequently lead to the degradation of their moral values and underperforming in their studies. Further, these students will behave in a crass manner with their elders and teachers. Many adults are also suffering from the same issue, she said, adding that instead of spending quality time with their children, they turn their attention on mobile phones.
Asserting that a society without women would never progress, she advised parents and elders to give priority to their girl child as well and added that children, whether male or female, should be treated the same when being given the opprtunity for higher education.
It may be noted that an open debating competition was also conducted at Manipur Press Club in this connection.
