Ukhrul, Aug 27 : Tangkhul Literature Society (TLS) on Saturday organised the 18th Proficiency Awards distribution programme to honour students who secured the highest mark in Tangkhul subject in this year's HSLC and HSSLC examinations at Shimva Saklong Awontang community hall, Ukhrul
Speaking on the occasion, Wungnaosui Ronra, vice president TLS stated that the felicitation programme was conducted to encourage students to take more interest in the Tangkhul subject.
"There are more than 250 Tangkhul villages and each village has a different dialect. However, the dialect of Hunphun/Ukhrul village was commonly spoken and declared as the Tangkhul language", he added.
Appealing to the parents to encourage their children to give more interest to their mother-language, Ronra said, "Language is our identity and defines our community/tribe".
AS John Apeng, secretary TLS informed that students can now study Tangkhul language at the Graduate level from the current academic session.
Victor W Kaping, retired Joint Director, handed over the Proficiency Award to 6 students.
For Class X, awards were conferred to Samungthei Rumthao, Paotam Chingjar Ngashangva and Mansak Shimrah of Savio School.
For Class-XII, awards were conferred to Sanyaola Jajo & Khangamphy Zimik from KTL Hr Sec School and Ringmila Mahak from Alice Christian Hr Sec School.
