Rape accused remanded

IMPHAL, Aug 26 : The Special Court POCSO Ukhrul on Friday remanded one rape accused to judicial custody till September 9.
Rape accused Thotchuingam Shinglai s/o Kelvin Shinglai of Nungou (Aze) village, Ukhrul was produced before the Court by a team of Ukhrul Women police station on completion of his police custody period.
The defence counsel, on the other hand, filed a remand objection and sought bail.
The IO of the case submitted that Thotchuingam Shinglai sexually assualted a minor girl on December 24, 2020 and the matter came to light recently after the 'victim' narrated about the crime to her family members.
The rape accused was arrested by police based on a complaint lodged by the victim's family.
The defence counsel claimed that the accused is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the case without any material evidence.
The defence counsel further submitted that the accused will follow all the conditions given by the Court after his bail application is approved. Responding to the defence counsel, the APP of the State submitted that there are prima facie material evidences which prove that the rape accused sexually assualted the minor. The APP further submitted that it is too early to release the accused as there is likelihood of tempering witnesses. The Court, after hearing counsels of both the parties and on perusal of material on record, remanded the rape accused to judicial custody till September 9.
