WMC urges

IMPHAL, Jul 8 : The World Meetei Council (WMC) has once again urged the State Government to send the ethnography and socioeconomic reports of the Meeteis for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe list to the Centre.
In a statement, WMC said that there is no reason for any community or a group of a people to object to the demand being raised to recognise Meeteis as indigenous people of the State.
"Manipur is a beautiful State but at times some people try to make it bad. The fact is the two indigenous people - Meeteis and Nagas are welcoming by nature. This is the reason why today Manipur has become a multi-ethnic State. However every community needs to understand their limits," it continued.
Saying that the Meeteis and Nagas accept every community living in the State "as one of us," the WMC claimed that a group of people or people of a particular community which enjoy all the facilities and service granted to the indigenous people, however, are seemingly not happy with the demand. Further stating that this people of a particular community should be grateful to the two native indigenous people of Manipur for accepting them as one of them, the WMC urged the State Government to send the needed reports to the Centre.
