Senapati, Jul 5 : The NHIDCL and LEKCON which is executing the four lane project along National Highway-2, the main lifeline of Manipur have come under heavy criticism over the poor maintenance of the ongoing highway expansion work.
Amidst the growing complaints of inconveniencing those appearing for examinations, throwing schedules and travel engagements out of gear, police were deployed to manage traffic movement on the highway.
SP Senapati Karthik Malladi also wrote to the General Manager of NHIDCL, Senapati Division on June 27 to instal proper road safety signs, traffic regulation signboards and deploy flaggers at the work site. The SP also highlighted the hardships faced by the public and transporters due to frequent traffic blockage causing inconveniences to all. Sources informed that a similar letter will be sent to Kangpokpi administration to intervene and see what may be done.
Taking to social media, many have condemned the negligence of the work agency to improve the muddy, sinking and hazardous condition of the road even after two months of inconveniences faced by travellers and drivers. Long queue of stranded vehicles to navigate through the 1 km stretch has been a regular affair.
Many have taken to social media especially Facebook and Whatsapp groups tagging Chief Minister N Biren, NHIDCL and others to vent out their resentment over the poor maintenance and prolonged delay to put the road in good shape even after two months.
Reacting to the outcry from the public, the NHIDCL today issued an order assigning officials to monitor and maintain the stretch between T Khullen and Mayangkhang. Altogether 15 persons have been assigned to monitor the road stretch.
