SIRE award
IMPHAL, Jul 4 : Dr Potshangbam Nongdam Puren, Assistant Professor (S3), Department of Biotechnology, Manipur University has been conferred the prestigious SIRE Award (2022-23), sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India.
Dr Nongdam Puren will undertake intensive research in ornamental plant propagation using advanced TIB bioreactor systems under the mentorship of Professor Wanger A Vendrame, Assistant Chair, Department of Environmental Horticulture, University of Florida, USA for a period of five months.
It is worth mentioning that the SIRE program aims to impart high-end research training in frontier areas of Science and Technology that are of interest to India by providing an opportunity to visit leading institutes/universities around the world.
Dr Puren is among the 50 fellows selected from across the Nation. He is an active researcher in the field of plant biotechnology and has published more than 65 research papers and book chapters in many SCI-indexed high-impact factored international journals and in reputed publishers like Springer, Elsevier, Taylor and Francis etc.
Till now, his publications have attracted around 700 citations with h-index of 14 and i-10 score of 22. He has also successfully completed several major research projects funded by UGC, SERB, DST etc., as principal investigator and co-principal investigator.
