IMPHAL, Jun 7; Movement for People's Right to Information, Manipur has alleged that the incumbent Vice-Chancellor of Manipur Technical University (MTU) is a fraudulent individual and is ineligible to hold such a high post.
The above allegations were raised by the Co-convenor of Movement for People's Right to Information, Wahengbam Joykumar while speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.
He went on to inform that written complaints have been written to University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to remove him from the post of VC of MTU.
Expressing shock over the appointment of Dr Bhabeshwar Tongbram who was a lecturer of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic Imphal as the VC of MTU, he alleged that his bio-data is fabricated and not a genuine one.
He also maintained that there is a high possibility that the notification issued on August 12, 2021 for the recruitment of VC of MTU was done in a faulty manner as per the experience and qualification of Dr Bhabeshwar.
He received the PhD degree in History from Manipur University and not in the field of engineering or technology, he added.
Joykumar further alleged that Dr Bhabeshwar did not take prior permission from authorities concerned to pursue the PhD degree in History. For holding a non-engineering PhD degree, he was removed from the list of names for appointment as the Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering of NIT Manipur, he continued.
W Joykumar who is also an RTI activist stated that based on the above mentioned reasons, the written complaint has been sent to Secretary of UGC and Member Secretary of AICTE urging for the removal of Dr Bhabeshwar as the VC of MTU.
